Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must possess a Master’s degree in Humanities and Social Sciences/Science or Master’s degree in the allied subjects with consistently good academic record and a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent CGPA in the Master’s degree.

Further, the candidate must also fulfil any one of the following criteria:

  • Qualified PET (PhD Entrance Test) in the relevant subject, conducted by the University of Mumbai.
  • Qualified GATE / NET / SET (JRF) examination.
  • Teacher Fellowship holder from a competent authority like CSIR/ DST/ DBT/ UGC etc.
  • A permanent faculty member with five years teaching experience.

Minimum Qualification

Aspirant must have secured 55% aggregate marks in relevant subject in Post graduation or Master of Philosophy.

Course Work

As per University of Mumbai Circular No. Exam/Thesis Univ/VCD947 of 2018, minimum standards and procedures for the award of M.Phil and Ph.D. Degrees is communicated

  • PhD course work shall be of 12 credits
  • The course work will be treated as prerequisite for PhD.
  • A minimum of 6 credits, which will include 2 credits of Research ethics.
  • Remaining 6 credits will be assigned by the Research centre based on the topic allotted to research student.
  • All courses prescribed for PhD course work shall be dully approved by the respective Board of Studies.
  • The department where student pursues research shall prescribe the courses.
  • The course work may be completed at the research centre.
  • Course work should be completed in the initial one of two semester.
  • The grades in the course work, including research methodology courses shall be finalized after a combined assessment by the RAC and shall be submitted to the University

Admission Process

Eligible candidates will apply online through the link provided on notice

The duly filled application form along with relevant testimonials will be submitted online within ten days from the date of notice.

Eligible candidates will be called for a personal interview with the PhD selection committee (RAC of the College). The date, time and venue of the personal interview will be intimated to the candidates through mail.

The candidates will have to give a Statement of Purpose (250 words) indicating their proposed area of research.

Following the recommendation of the interview committee shall approve the selection of the candidate and shall notify the selected candidate (by Email / on College website). He/ she can then submit the registration form for Ph.D. program to the college along with the prescribed fee.

Admission Guidelines

  • Parents and students are requested to go through the prospectus and admission notices put on the college notice boards and college’s website of kjssc.somaiya.edu before seeking admission in the college.
  • The College or the Management does not accept any donation or capitation fees for any admission. The admission to students is given as per the standard and transparent procedures. Any person approaching the students or parents for donation/capitation fees should be reported to the Principal immediately.
  • The Principal reserves the right to amend or modify the rules regarding admission, as and when such amendments and guidelines are received from the Board, the University, the Government or the Management.
  • The Principal also reserves the right to refuse admission, if in his opinion; such an admission is likely to adversely affect the overall discipline of the college.
  • Admission preference will be given to students who have passed the eligibility qualification in the preceding academic year.

Refund of Fees

Mode of refund of fees For Post-graduate Degree Programmes (Reference No.-UG /253 of 1996) 0.3574.

The registration fee once paid for the post-graduate programme will not be refunded for any reason.

The tuition fee paid by a candidate for the programme in which he / she is registered as a post-graduate learner will be refunded to him / her if he / she leaves the said programme without attending any lectures, seminars or practical, subject to a deduction of 20% of the tuition fee there for the administrative charges. An application by the candidate for such refund will only be entertained if it is received by the Principal within fifteen days from the date of commencement of the lectures of the semester in which the fee is paid and certified by the head of the concerned department.

The tuition fee paid by a candidate for the programme in which he / she is registered as a post-graduate learner will be refunded to him / her if he / she leaves the said programme and joined the another programme of this University for which he applied at the same time and then selection form the new programme of this University is made later, subject to a deduction of 20% of the tuition fee there from for the administrative charges. An application by the candidate is entertained if it is received by the Principal within fifteen days from the date of his paying tuition fee for the new programme.
