Anti Ragging Committee

In pursuance to the judgment of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India dated 8-5-2009 in civil Appeal No. 887/2009, the UGC framed “UGC Regulations on curbing the menace of ragging in higher educational Institutions, 2009” which were notified on 17th June 2009, K.J.Somaiya College of Science and Commerce(Autonomous) College has constituted the Anti-Ragging Cell.

Ragging is considered as a gross violation of Human Rights and is absolutely prohibited both within and outside the campus and anyone found guilty of commission of ragging and / or abetting ragging whether actively or passively, or being a part of conspiracy to promote ragging, is liable to be punished in accordance with UGC Regulations 2009 as well as under the provisions of any penal law for the time being in force.

Ragging encompasses the following Acts as defined by the Honourable Supreme Court of India in its landmark judgment in 2001

  • Display of turbulent, disorderly conduct
  • Mocking, agitation by rough or rude behaviour
  • Unruly, undisciplined acts causing or are likely to cause annoyance, undue hardship, physical or psychological harm or raise apprehensive fear in a fresher
  • Compelling students to do any act or perform something which he/she would otherwise in the ordinary course would refrain from doing causing or is likely to cause him/her shame or embarrassment or danger to his/her life, etc.

College ensures that freshers are exposed to a congenial and student friendly environment and takes charge in penalising the perpetrators

Penalties awarded for Participation in/or Abetment of Ragging :
  • Cancellation of admission.
  • Suspension from attending lectures and practicals.
  • Withholding/withdrawing scholarship/fellowship and other benefits.
  • Debarring from appearing in any Internal /semester end examination or other evaluation process.
  • Withholding results of Internal /semester end examination of the college.
  • Debarring from representing the college in any national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.
  • Suspension/expulsion from the college hostel.
  • Rustication from the institution for periods varying from 1 to 4 semesters or equivalent period.
  • Expulsion from the college and consequent debarring from admission to any other college/institution.
  • Imposition of fine upto Rs.25,000/-

In order to achieve the UGC objectives, the institution has constituted a committee as per their 2009 Regulations.
