CUBE (Collaboratively Understanding Biology Education) program was started, in the summer of 2012, at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). CUBE is a project- based science education program and is designed to cultivate a scientific attitude in students through a collaborative and conversational learning environment.
This ideology of CUBE was introduced in our college in 2020-21.
CUBE projects revolve around simple model organisms that can be found easily and anywhere. These projects act as basic entry points to involve and engage students in interesting scientific endeavors.
CUBE believes in collaboration as a means of advancing knowledge and research culture. To achieve this, it invites people from all sections of society to join and engage in science and citizen science projects.
Hands-on research cultivates scientific thinking and gives students authentic research experiences, including designing experiments, interpreting outcomes, coping with failed experiments, considering alternative methodologies and testing new techniques. Linking research to the learning process can help students develop a variety of general, as well as, specific skills. Building a research profile can also benefit institutions by fostering networking with other institutions and research groups. This will gradually produce a community of biology educator-researchers who integrate evidence-based practice into their teaching.
