In order to enable students to become globally competent and familiar with latest trends in Microbiology, the programme has advanced courses in Biochemistry, Immunology and Medical Microbiology, Genetics, Food Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Applied & Environmental Monitoring and Management.

With an intention to inculcate Scientific temperament and augment critical analytical Research skills, syllabus consist of topics on Research Methodology such as Literature Review, Research Design, and Biostatistics. Syllabus also has content on Scientific writing and Drafting of a Research Proposal. Students conduct Dissertation work and compile their findings in the form of Thesis. There is consistent encouragement for Experiential Learning in the form of Internships.

Curriculum

First Year (Semester- I)

This course deals with providing an indepth understanding of processes of life using Cell biology, genetics and evolution as fundamentals.

Enables the learner with detailed understanding of protein structures, transfer o f protein molecules in organisms and various chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques to study compounds. It also deals with understanding the metabolism of one and two carbon compounds.

The immunology component focuses on basics of immunology and its advances.Medical Microbiology covers thedetailed study of infections and epidemiology of infectious diseases.

The course focuses on instilling in candidates the understanding of gene expression regulation and repair.It also provides the baisc understanding of cytoplasmic inheritance and chromosomal rearrangement as well as various molecular tools to study genetics and popular genetics.

First Year (Semester- II)

It deals with study of viruses their gene transfer mechanisms. It covers various aspects of developemental genetics, transposable elements and genetic basis of cancer.

It provides an indepth exploration of the diverse role microbes and microbial communities as well as basic understanding of exobiology and environment management & safety concerns.

Covers the basic and advances of enzymes,fundamentals of signalling and stress amongst organisms and provides an overview of Nanobiotechnology.

This course provides insight into GMP with emphasis of QC in food and water.It also deals with providing an detail understanding of advances in food microbiology and various techniques for detection and control of microbes in food.

Second Year (Semester- III)

TThis course will enable the learner to understand the meaning and objective of research, how to design hypothesis ,the statistical methods of collection, analysis, interpretation, presentation, organization of data, numerous tools and techniques to analyze the data and interpret the results of the analysis.

The learner will be understand the concepts of tissue culturing techniques and its applications in biological sciences and it will also focus on areas of biofuels and molecular biotechnology.

It will help the learner to examine and understand the concepts of Quality Control and Quality Assurance as they apply to the pharmaceutical industry, based on current government regulations. It also provides knowledge of microbial production and assay methods.

The course shall give a brief overview of the IPR landscape, basic concepts of Bioinformatics and its associated tools as well as the advanced techniques used in molecular biotechnology.

Second Year (Semester- IV)

Through this course learner will be enabled to understand applications and techniques in biotechnology, which expand and increase the student’s comprehension of how biotechnology utilizes living systems to create products and enhance lives.

This course will expose the learner to various fundamentals of viruses affecting life forms,it also focuses on the vaccine production and provides understanding on the concepts of Epidemics, Pandemics and Outbreaks.

This course will serve as an introduction to the topic of environmental microbiology. Information about basic microbiology and biochemistry, marine biochemistry, and pollution microbiology will be incorporated, providing the student with both an understanding of basic microbiology and of the potential of microorganisms to influence our environment.
